Team captain: Rory O'Connor

About

We are raising funds for patient and therapy resources; primarily to update and refurbish the occupational therapy kitchen. This kitchen is used to support patients to live more independently in the future as they practice and demonstrate functional skills for life after discharge. Monies raised will also be spent on revamping the dining room, resources for group work and assistive technologies to support patients rehabilitation journeys.

The complex rehabilitation service at Leeds Teaching Hospitals provides care and treatment for patients with a range of conditions; including traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, central nervous system cancers, stroke and long term neurological conditions. Patients are admitted to either ward C1 or C2 at Chapel Allerton Hospital and depending on their needs, participate in several weeks of rehabilitative interventions. This care is provided by a multi disciplinary team consisting of occupational therapists, physiotherapists, psychologists, speech and language therapists, social workers and dietitians who work alongside medics and nurses to provide specialist intensive rehabilitation to patients.

The rehabilitation team and some service users and their family and friends are endevaouring to walk/run/cycle/swim/wheel the length of the coast of mainland Britain within a single calendar month (May 2021)! This is a total distance of 17,819km!!

With your support we are aiming to raise a combined total of £10,000 through the Leeds Hospitals Charity. Progress towards our goal will be tracked and managed through Strava. Updates will be provided regularly via the services Twitter page LTHT Complex Rehab
